Wednesday’s child is full of woe. As we head towards Christmas and the New Year, children’s rights to peaceful upbringings seem increasingly jeopardised as today’s news is dominated by revelations of paedophile rings and systemic child abuse, as well as disturbing rumours over the true nature of Ebola.

From a convicted US paedophile jailed recently in Kenya to a UK doctor jailed in London over abuse of child cancer patients, as well as the thousands of African children orphaned by Ebola and themselves dependent on a controversial vaccine, there currently seems to be a synchronicity of horrors rocking the world. 

As a matter of routine, our world exclusive editorial each December has always devoted itself to highlighting the plight of children caught up in the world’s various vicissitudes.

 

 

However, this Christmas, in a bid to raise awareness and protect children, The Bridge Magazine is going to focus on the plights of sexually abused children, and Ebola’s orphans, as rising statistics for these two categories of victims have been much in the news of late.

 

Both Ebola and paedophilia remain highly controversial issues among scientists, academics and experts who work with abusers and victims of the diseases.

 

Recently, Scotland Yard released shocking figures which revealed that the “UK has 250,000 paedophiles”. According to the Keep Them Safe UK and Eire Statistics Database for Crimes against Children, published in May 2014:

 

“Over 30,000 paedophiles/ child abusers are now profiled on our database. More than 400 children are sexually abused every week in Britain, one every 20 minutes, a shock investigation has revealed.”

 

Meanwhile, on Ebola statistics, according to The World Health Organisation (WHO)  “Up to 23rd  November 2014

On sexual violence and crimes against children

The World Health Organisation defines paedophilia as “a persistent or a predominant preference for sexual activity with a prepubescent child or children”, adding: “The person is at least 16 years old and at least five years older than the child or children.

In July 2014, the Daily Mail online published an article by one John Hall, a whistle-blower who revealed that a “‘powerful elite’ of at least 20 prominent establishment figures formed a VIP paedophile ring that abused children for 65 years” in Britain…
