This year UEFA Champions League, the top-tier competition for European clubs featuring the best football teams from each UEFA national association, including the top performing clubs from the strongest leagues – is expecting a global audience in Germany.
The UEFA EURO 2024 kicked off in Munich- Germany on Friday 14th June and is ending with the final taking place in Berlin on Sunday 14th July as 23 teams joined the host country.
As the host nation, Germany has qualified automatically. West Germany hosted the tournament back in 1988, but this is the first time Germany is welcoming the European Championship since reunification.
Statistics predict hosting Euro 2024 may drastically impact the German economy:
According to latest statistics, German Retails Federation estimates 4 billion USD in additional sales during UEFA Euro 2024 football tournament.
As the host country of the 2024 Euros championship, Germany is aspiring for a successful tournament.
An overview for statistics reveals “Europe’s largest economy is expected to grow around 0.3% this year…”
This economic growth will come as a little surprise one may say, as a close look at ticket prices at EURO 2024, by category shows that the cheapest ticket of the tournament’s final is set to cost 95 euros while the most expensive standard ticket , a centrally located Prime seat is set to cost 2000 euros.
There are 2.7 million tickets available for the four-week event from June 14th to July 14th.
The hosting venues: Berlin, Munich, Cologne, Dortmund, Duesseldorf, Frankfurt, Gelsenkirchen, Hamburg, Leipzig and Stuttgart can expect a rush of domestic and foreign guests.
A spokesperson from the Package Holiday Company, said: “The Euros are a huge driver for travel this summer. Some people may have even sneakily booked their trips knowing full well it would coincide with some of the bigger games, while others may simply want to switch off from it. Whether you want to escape or embrace football, we are giving holidaymakers lots of choice and flexibility this summer and are offering something for everyone.”
As a result of the summer sporting showcase, 22 per cent of Euros fans admit they’ll be spending less time with their partner than they normally would do on a holiday.
More than a fifth (21 per cent) considered changing their travel times when they realised there was going to be a Euros crossover.
With 13 per cent even contemplating booking another holiday for later in the year.
Despite this, 50 per cent reckon tourists from all over Europe will be happier if their team is doing well – and 43 per cent expect to see a boost to local economies.
The UEFA European Football Championship: History in brief
The UEFA is the acronym for Union for European Football Association the sport’s European governing body.
Established since 1960, The European Championship is an association football competition contested by the men’s national teams of the members of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA). Also known as The Euros in slang, it takes place every four years.
Did you know?
The UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europa League are both prestigious European club football competitions organised by the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA).
However, there are key differences between the two tournaments:
Participation wise
The UEFA Champions League is considered the elite /top-tier competition for European clubs (featuring the best teams from each UEFA national association, including the top performing clubs from the strongest leagues) whereas the UEFA Europa League is one tier lower than the Champion League.
In a format point of view,
The UEFA Champions League: starts with a group of 32 teams divided into 8 groups of 4 each. The top two teams from each group will progress up to the knockout stage: which involves several rounds of home-and-away matches leading up to the final.
Whereas, the UEFA Europa League: also starts with a group of players, featuring 48 teams divided into 12 groups of four teams each. Just like in the Champions League, the top two teams from each group will progress up to the knockout rounds, leading by so doing to the final.
In terms of reward
The UEFA Champions League is best known for offering greater financial rewards and prestige than to the Europa League.
The winner of the Champions League gets a significant monetary reward and gains automatic qualification to the following season’s Champions League.
When it comes to financial rewards, the UEFA Europa League: offers lower financial incentive to the participating clubs than its counterpart tournament. The winner of the Europa League also earns an automatic qualification to the following season’s Champions League.
Georgia is the only team making their European Championship finals debut this summer in Germany.
History and Prestige:
The UEFA Champions League has a longer standing history and is considered the most prestigious club competition in European football featuring the best teams from across Europe, competing for the title of European champions.
On the other hand, UEFA Europa League: formerly known as the UEFA Cup, despite its rich history is mostly considered to be a level lower than the Champions League in terms of prestige.
Overall, while both tournaments offer exciting football exposure and opportunities to clubs to compete at a European level, the UEFA Champions League is generally regarded as the premier club competition in European football.

Germany
Opening match of the 2024 European Championship
Germany started with high confidence by beating Scotland 5-1 in opening match.
Home advantage may boost the Germans to become outstanding contenders at Euro 2024.
Although the German Toni Kroos ( 34 years ) is set to retire after the tournament, there are chances he still has what it takes to lead his nation to success. Ilkay Gundogan and he are expected to make an impact in midfield.
The likes of Manuel Neuer (German goalkeeper ) Antonio Rüdiger, ( German Centre -back and Joshua Kimmich ( Bayer Munich professional , right- back or defensive midfielder ) are metaphorically the team back bone.
Italy, led by goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, will look to defend the crown they won three years ago.
The top 3 dark horses of the competition
France
The Bleus are arguably blessed with the world’s best football players with Kylian Mbappé timeless talent on the pitch, while Deschamps has put everything together to get it right once again, the trophy might be around the corner for the Hexagon.
There were fears France’s football team captain may need surgery (which would have forced him to miss the rest of the competition ) to repair his broken nose. Although Kylian Mbappé will reportedly miss France’s next match vs Netherlands, he will not need surgery to repair his broken nose.
The Bridge Magazine wishes him a good recovery : Mbappé who was injured in the 85th minute on Monday after breaking his nose in a heavy collision with Austria defender Kevin Danso’s on Monday, shoulder, bloodying the French high profile football player,
England
Best remembered as the nation which had the ingenuity to invent football.
The Three Lions have re-emerged after years of underachieving, but Gareth Southgate has ensured the team is well-built to win tournament matches.
With Highly gifted footballers such as: Bukayo Saka, Declan Rice, Harry Kane, Jude Bellingham, England could take the world by surprise and make a victory happen. Hopefully, England will be capable of going all the way in Germany and bring that trophy home.
Portugal
From a talent perspective, Portugal has the calibre to compete against anyone in the world. Their squad has high profile footballers.

As previously published in one of our sport related successful articles , FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 article, football is not an exact science. As: despite the tactic of watching previous games in the hope of managing to grasp certain techniques and footwork/ dribble from the greatest athletes, who then go on to achieve one of the most prestigious awards a football player can have in his career such as : Ballon d’Or.
Inevitably, there will always be surprises: what a footballer executes in one game cannot be copied as that will most likely not be the same tactic or the same technique the coach will utilise as many evolve and replenished aspects come into creating a team such as who is striker, midfielder and which trio works best at breaking a specific defence and scoring or who is best at penalty shoot outs and can score under severe pressure.
No one can pretend to be experienced enough. The UEFA European Football Championship is a cultural exchange and a game. Forget about allegations of match fixtures, jealousy, dirty tricks, sects, cults, dark magic involvement, football and political spin, months ahead of the opening tournament but remember, the first purpose of the game is to gather and entertain nations from around the world.
The Bridge Magazine wishes GOOD LUCK TO ALL the 24 teams competing this summer in Germany for the 2024 UEFA European Football Championship. Enjoy, make the most out of the game, remain fair play whatever the outcome of your team by extension your country, and may the best team win.
