We would have been forgiven for thinking we were dreaming while watching the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s spectacular wedding.

But the sudden expulsion of the Libyan ambassador from London after the bombing of the British Embassy in Tripoli, along with the death of Osama Bin Laden, day later brought the world crashing back down to Earth with a bump – and spoiled the charm of the royal couple’s enchanted world.

Omar Jelban’s departure from the UK and news of the death of the Saudi-born terrorist were reminders that, unlike in fairy tales, the real world is one in which eternal wars are waged between the forces of light and darkness – one where beauty has to challenge the beast, the truth the lie, the good the evil.

The ugly truth is that the changing date of the newly-wed’s honeymoon was allegedly postponed due to a fear of a death-threat against the royal couple.

If this is the case, for how long will not only the privileged but the entire world continue having to live in fear?

Some have described the permanent climate of insecurity in which we are all living as a result of the terrorism which itself stems from war and the pursuit of oil. For others, Bin Laden was purely an excuse for the West to secure its political and economic supremacy.

The investigative journalist and peace activist John Pilger recently wrote in the New Statesman:

“The Euro-American attack on Libya has nothing to do with protecting anyone; only the terminally naive believe such nonsense. It is the West’s response to popular uprisings in strategic, resource-rich regions of the world and the beginning of a war of attribution against the new imperial rival, China.”

Pilger earlier suggested that, if Libya did not have oil but grew carrots, then the West would not bother intervening.

He added:

“What the West should do is stay away from other countries of the world, stay away from their resources, stay away from their people, let countries develop in their own way, let the Libyan people deal with Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi…”

Greediness and selfishness has taken its toll on the 21^st century man. Skillful spin doctors are constantly helping politicians and governments to justify the killing and the destruction of generations of other countries’ populations in their own narrow economic interests…
