Save the Children: babies’ welfare is the highest priority in wartime. Supply chain disruptions since the COVID-19 outbreak and the closure of Abbott Baby Formula Plant following the deaths of infants has triggered baby formula shortages worldwide.
It all started on 17th February 2022 when Abbott Laboratories, the biggest American supplier of powder infant formula, closed its Michigan factory after USA Food and Drug Administration (FDA) inspectors began investigating four bacterial infections in infants who consumed formula from the plant.
The nationwide and worldwide shortages have left parents scrambling to feed their babies. Mothers in the UK and the rest of the world are currently struggling to afford baby formula and other baby food.
According to recent statistics the average monthly cost for bottle feeding, formula, sterilising equipment, and bottles varies between £57 – £117.
In his online article entitled ‘The Cost of Baby Formula’, published on 16th May 2022, Javier Simon wrote: ‘If your baby currently consumes 25 ounces of milk per day, you can expect to spend between $821.25 and $2,920 which equates in Pound Sterling to £ 657.21 and £2,337.40, in your baby’s first year – depending on the brand you choose.’
Javier Simon is a journalist and an expert consultant for SmartAsset who has volunteered and raised funds for charities such as Exploited Children and Fight Cancer Together.
It has been medically and dietarily proven that babies consume an average of 25 ounces of milk per day during their first year.
The lack of baby formula is to have a dire impact on babies having healthy growth and wellbeing. The increasing cost of baby food in general and infant formula in particular are negatively impacting a myriad of families’ budgets.
The Bridge Magazine provides advice to mothers worldwide to make breastfeeding their primary option if they were to have a choice. Breastfeeding is and remains the most efficient and ultimate means to save their babies, infants and/or toddlers lives.
BEWARE !!!
According to health experts: some Sexually Transmitted Diseases, (STDs) or Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs), such as chlamydia, gonorrhoea, trichomoniasis, genital herpes, genital warts, HIV, and syphilis can cross either the placenta or the birth canal and infect the baby in the womb or as the baby passes through the birth canal.
Thanks to the breakthrough of medicine, women with AIDS and other STDs or any other blood conditions that could potentially be transmitted to their new-borns via breastfeeding are usually vividly advised by their doctor and midwives NOT TO breastfeed.
Your health expert would advise you if you fall under the aforementioned category.
The Bridge Magazine’s highest concern at times of war is ensuring babies are safe.
Instead of fighting for every mother’s access to healthy, affordable baby formula, The Bridge Magazine focuses on providing useful and scientifically proven advice on the myriad health benefits and cost effectiveness of breastfeeding.
There is a common misconception that breastfeeding makes your bust look less attractive and less sexy. This has led to a myriad of women and teenage mothers either not planning on breastfeeding as an option or to be in debt to undergo plastic surgery before giving birth or between every single pregnancy.
Some were reportedly going under the knife whilst breastfeeding their new-borns. As a reminder, your babies are missing the golden opportunity of strengthening their immune system if they are not breastfed.
As a reminder, breastfeeding DOES NOT make you look less attractive, less sexy
or less sensual.
Physically, for the visual side of things, you can enhance your bust appearance with feminine, elegant and delicate padded lace bras and your breasts can still have a flattering appearance even if you have breastfed.
Emotionally, in substance, If you are sexually attracted to your husband, your partner, your sexual partner or your boyfriend, your nipples can still get harder whilst making love and you can still achieve nipple orgasm even if you have breastfed several times.
The cerebral attraction and additional love languages will still make your nipples excited , hard enough and prone to enjoy sex during lovemaking.
DO NOT let preconceived ideas and common misconceptions steal away the golden opportunity your new-borns have to benefit from breastfeeding. If you do not breastfeed for futile reasons as a parent you are making an immature decision.
Find below the health benefits of breastfeeding and the reason why you MUST be considering breastfeeding your baby or babies at least up to one year, whether or not your breast produces enough natural milk or not.
Must have accessories and tool kit when you are breastfeeding
Easy-access underwear and clothing
Breastfeeding bras are meant to facilitate breastfeeding in public, café, libraries, parks, plane, and other public places …
Breast-pump and a few bottles.
Breast-pumps are not one-size-fits-all, so make sure you get the right one.
They cost between £25 to £500, depending on whether you want manual or electric.
You don’t need a breast pump if you don’t want to use one: throughout the centuries, women around the world have breastfed without pumps.
However, if your baby has trouble latching on or keeping up sucking at the breast during the first days of life because he or she is persistently weak, you MUST use a breast pump to stimulate your breasts’ milk production.
Also , if you have flat, inverted or dimpled nipples a breast pump may help to evert your nipples before a breastfeed, making it easier for your baby to latch on.
Some women do not produce enough natural breast milk. Their doctor or midwife will then advise them to combine breast feeding and infant formula because if the baby doesn’t get enough milk, he or she will have poor weight gain.
Babies, infants, toddlers are top priorities among the most vulnerable groups of society. All adults have the responsibility to ensure their safe and healthy passage from childhood to adulthood to ensure the continuation of the human species…
There are numerous long-lasting physical and mental health benefits for both mother and child when it comes to breastfeeding.
A healthy mother has a more mature immune system that provides antibodies to the germs to which she and her baby have been exposed. These antibodies enter her breast milk, to help protect her baby from illness. According to
medical experts, Immunoglobulin A coats the lining of the baby’s immature intestines preventing germs and allergens from leaking through.
Breast milk also contains substances that naturally soothe infants and aid intelligence.
Breastfed babies have:
-
Stronger immune systems, less diarrhoea, constipation, gastroesophageal reflux, constipation. Very few colds and respiratory diseases, better vision, lower rate of infant mortality, to list a few.
Breastfeeding enables:
-
Lower risk of breast cancer.
-
Lower risk of rheumatoid arthritis and lupus.
-
Lower endometriosis.
-
Lower osteoporosis with age.
-
Lower risk of diabetes.
-
Lower hypertension, decreases blood pressure.
-
Less cardiovascular disease.
The May 22 to 26 World Economic Forum annual meeting in Davos-Klosters in Switzerland was the first global in-person leadership event since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. It is the top notch creative force for engaging the world’s leaders in collaborative activities to shape the global, regional and industrial agendas at the beginning of each year.
The Davos forum brought together 3,000 participants worldwide, and aims to give concrete meaning to “stakeholder capitalism”, assist governments and international institutions in tracking progress towards the Paris Agreement and the Sustainable Development Goals, and facilitate discussions on technology and trade governance.
What a stark contrast! Just when the world population was having a glimmer of hope, that the 2022 Davos forum was the magic wand to alleviate the current global living cost crisis,
Jonathan Brearley, the head of the UK energy regulator, the Office of Gas and Electricity Markets (Ofgem) chose to be a kill joy: he told to the Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak that the energy price cap is expected to surge from £1,971 to £2,800 a year in October, piling further pressure on the Chancellor to help struggling Britons through a deepening cost-of-living crisis.
This proved once again why mothers from around the world should take action by following The Bridge Magazine breastfeeding advice very seriously if they are concerned with their babies’, infants’ and toddlers’ health, wellbeing and growth.
We all hope the world’s leaders will not continue to turn a blind eye to human suffering.
