Orchidée’ s verses. On March 8th 2025, to celebrate International Women’s Day, The Bridge Magazine shared again its Young Contributor’s pieces of photography, drawings and poem composed when she was 9. The poem could arguably be rated as a classic, as not only its components are of a high quality but also appeals to many generations. It is an all-in-one happy birthday poem to her mother, and by extension, to wish a Happy International Women’s Day to all women around the world.

According to UN Women

At age 21, as a law student, our young contributor shared her thoughts about the International Women’s Day in these words:
“Women’s Day is a special day as it commemorates the special beings that are women. I believe women are the essence of life as they bear and produce life thus are people who should be respected and loved all year round.” Maître Orchidée B. Wafo
Bringing back Orchidée’ s verses this March, is a way for our editorial to show love, support and respect to past, present, and future, girls, and women from around the world.
Our editorial honours girls and women from all walks of life, around the globe: Those who have passed away and current, with no distinction of age groups, tribes, social classes, skin tones, religions, political parties, geographical details

The Bridge Magazine shared again its young contributor’s pieces of photography, drawings and poem composed when she was 9. Although written at a tender age, Orchid’s poem is not only of a high quality but also appeals to many generations hence why it has the merit to be republished on International Women’s Day as long as it is topical and we received Orchid’s formal approval.

Our young collaborator, Maître Orchidée B. Wafo, has now grown into a successful bilingual Corporate Lawyer.
Her poems or her powerful quotes are not landing in our Magazine by chance! She has relentlessly, consistently and continuously worked hard as a nursery child, a pupil, a student and even as a trainee…

She was awarded at Age 17 Young Reporter of the Year 2018 by The Sutton Guardian and The Richmond Times for publishing articles regularly for 8 months.
She was even allowed and had the privilege to attend a theatre room of a Highly ranked Hospital, with successful surgeons who hold professional merit and Junior doctors at age 16, as one of her dream jobs was to become a brain surgeon.
Our young contributor also has a keen talent at writing poetry from the age of 9.
If ” Women are the very essence of life: because they carry life within themselves through (pregnancy) and give life through (childbirth).”
To quote our Young Collaborator: We presume that International Women’s Day should also be a key day to celebrate Women (protectors of life and humanity).

What if women were the cradle of humanity?
All humans on the earth had a unique lineage of ancestors back to the origin of human’s existence.

Women could arguably be perceived as the cradle of life, as the cradle of humanity as metaphorically, women nurture and are the safe havens for babies /children growth and transformation. Regardless of their position in society, women are expected to be the primary caregiver to their children and any elderly relatives.
Women are homemakers: There is an expectation of cooking, cleaning and maintaining the home, mending clothes for the family, buying groceries, and doing any other tasks related to running a household.

To the question to whether or not men should celebrate women’s day? The Bridge Magazine replies YES of course and perceives this as a rhetorical question.
Our editorial intends to bring men into the equation this International Women’s Day not as a subtle sabotage of Women’s Day festivity. Far from it! It is just a reminder that saying women are special is not to lessen men’s value.
The difference between women and their male counterparts should not be perceived as a competition, or a rivalry – rather as complementary.
Remember: a brother, a sibling, a male cousin, a male neighbour, a male boss, a son, an uncle, a male classmate, a lecturer, a mentor, a tutor, a male colleague, a teacher, a husband, an ex-husband, a father, a grandfather, a great-grandfather, a male acquaintance, all fall under the umbrella of men.
Most of them have and are continuously contributing directly or indirectly to girls and women’s blossoming and success worldwide.
Also, statistically, regarding how many men support gender equality, a survey carried out online among adults under 65 across 27 countries, reveals that two-thirds (65%) believe that women will not achieve equality in their country unless men take actions to support women’s rights too.

Apart from some cases where irresponsible, disloyal, violent, disrespectful, non-committed or continuous jobless men fail their partner or their families, most of the time, a man in a woman’s life could be perceived as a blessing.
On top of love making, a man is the final piece of jigsaw needed in the family. His aura protects, brings balance: A man gives a higher level of meaning and completeness in a team, a relationship, a domestic or a family setting.
This is why, most of the time, a man’s absence may easily be noticeable as it weakens a team or a family.
Our editorial believes males and females are complementary beings rather than eternal conflicting beings as we cannot build a harmonious world based on gender threats.

Before extreme feminists get over excited and think they can ostracise the male gender and build or create everything from scratch on their own, our editorial believes the difference in male gender should never be perceived as a threat, but rather complementary.
Of course! International Women’s Day is a time for everyone, regardless of gender or gender identity, to celebrate the progress that women have made for humanity throughout centuries.
Men’s decisiveness power and strength, coupled with women’s tolerance, understanding and nurturing qualities are ideal to bring balance in a work environment, a relationship, a domestic or a family setting.
A woman does not pursue and achieve certain roles or degrees in life to compete with the male gender: but rather, to be at bay of precarity, vulnerability, as a safeguard for herself as a human being, to be proud of her achievements first as a human and then to be happy that her existence on earth was not in vain.

On inadequate access to education and health care
Despite progress that has been made over the past decade to improve girls and women’s education, health and a peaceful upbringing, UNICEF estimates, around the world 122 million girls and young women may remain out of school, including 34 millions of primary school age, and 87 millions of secondary school age by 2030.
A robust global support system is in URGENT need towards girls and women to escape poverty
Women’ social protections, access to education and decent work are of paramount importance to alleviate gender extreme poverty.
On poverty and lack of economic opportunities
“More than 340 million women and girls are projected to live in extreme poverty by 2030[…]” meaning 8 per cent of the global female population is currently surviving on less than USD 2.15 a day.

On global violence against girls and women
“Each year, 245 million women and girls experience physical and/or sexual violence by an intimate partner. Older women also face higher rates of poverty and violence than older men” United Nations for Women revealed.
Did you know?
Girls’ hence women’s education goes beyond a degree or a job. An educated girl or woman can read the expired date of a baby formula thus avoid to poison her own child, her baby brother or sister, or a child she babysits.

An educated woman will not feed a child with an infant formula after its use-by date. Neither will she use arsenic as a spice for roast lamb. She will unknowingly poison the whole family, including herself. The list of examples goes on.
The same goes for working hard and thriving to strive for an elite job. Whenever women are eager to achieve elite jobs in society, this shouldn’t be perceived as to compete against their male counterparts, but rather to complement what a man provides.
If a father temporarily or permanently loses his job, the working mother will provide to save the family from falling apart.
Another case scenario where education will rescue a woman in distress:
A classic example: When a man dumps his wife and children, after taking back all the gifts he provided to her when they were together, it could be a very harsh slap on the right cheek.
But an educated woman who has a job, will not hand her left cheek to her ex-husband to finish her off. She may not be able to drive that same luxury car anymore, but at least the salary she gets from her job may still allow her to go to work by public transport, to support her children at school against the odds.
At this point in her life her education will enable her to pick up the support from where her husband left. Her income will enable her to uplift herself from the dust, carry herself with pride and dignity, and continue to provide basic needs and education fees for her household and herself.
There could be as many scenarios to show how important education is for girls and women.

Below is Orchid’s aforementioned poem.
Dear Mum,
Our love is more powerful than anything,
Our love is pure, it is the one and only thing;
Our love is an island full of emotions,
Holds secrets yet to be discovered –devotions
Easily discoverable; it is full of the magical;
Our love is a bond no one can break,
Our love is a spell that no one can shake,
Our love is a mountain, it has highs and lows,
Our love is a waterfall, it flows;
Our love is too special to give away,
Our love expects no one to pay;
Our love is a treasure,
Our love is a pleasure,
Our love can sometimes be hard for the heart
But our love can never break apart;
Our love is a mystery, a gift,
Our love is the sky, its clouds so swift…
You are my branches, I am the tree;
You are my soul, I am your body;
You are everything to me – You help me look even when I can see,
You help me listen even when I can hear,
You help me judge even when I can think, You are my inspiration, my love,
You are my hopes and dreams from above – I love you with all my heart and always will
Though we go through ups and downs of life’s hills;
We guide, help, listen, teach, and love each other
Every single day, but most importantly, this day
Have A Happy Birthday!
With love, from Orchidée …

Dear ALL,
Another case scenario where education will rescue a woman in distress:
Ensuring girls and young women worldwide receive a quality education is their human right. Also, better educated girls and women are not a burden for society.
A woman does not pursue and achieve certain roles or degrees in life to compete with the male gender: but rather, to be at bay of precarity, vulnerability, as a safeguard for herself as a human being, to be proud of her achievements first as a human and then to be happy that her existence on earth was not in vain.

Dear ALL,
Women could arguably be perceived as the cradle of life, as the cradle of humanity as metaphorically, women nurture and are the safe havens for babies /children growth and transformation. Regardless of their position in society, women are expected to be the primary caregiver to their children and any elderly relatives.
A man in a woman’s life could be perceived as a blessing.
In other words, gender threats are void when each gender can make the most out of the other gender to thrive and build a better world.
