The Paris 2024 Olympic Games is an event set to go down in history as hospitality has become France’s second skin: the country is expected to host the greatest sporting extravaganza on earth. The French are expected to pay tribute to Olympia- the first ever ancient site on Greece’s Peloponnese peninsula that hosted the original Olympic Games, throughout the 8th century B.C and showcase their finesse in their art of hosting and hospitality.

Throughout centuries, Humans have attached a huge importance to symbolism, in all aspects of their lives: the same goes with sports: Ancient Olympia inspired the contemporary Olympic Games with a modern twist to it.

In Greek mythology, the Olympic Games were held every 4 years at Olympia in honour of the supreme God Zeus, and celebrated for over a millennium and served as the inspiration for the modern competition.

According to a recent report, the operating budget available is “€4.4 billion” for the greatest and lavish sporting event on earth, with “the total cost rising closer to over €9 billion when building projects and other expenses are taken into account”.

Just like over a century ago now, around the 1924 at the pick of “les  Années Folles” also known as  “Crazy Years, Paris 2024 will be a chance  for the city of love” to metaphorically shine bright like a diamond  by  showing  off upper -class glamour at its finest.

It is believed the Ancient Greek site Olympia had extensive ruins which included athletic training areas, as well as stadium and temples dedicated to the Gods Hera and Zeus- the father of humanity.

The Archaeological Museum of Olympia exhibits finds from the site, including a statue of Hermes attributed to the sculptor Praxiteles.

The symbolism of the Olympic flame and the Torch Relay

Not only the flame represents the continuity between ancient and modern games but also, as a tradition, the Olympic flame is lit at Olympia in Greece, several months before the Olympic Games as if modern mankind was asking to Zeus, the God of Humanity to bless and protect the athletes and ensure their safety as well as the success of the ceremony as a whole.

It is believed in the context of the modern Games; the Olympic flame is a manifestation of the positive values that humans have always associated with the symbolism of fire and thus, making the link between the ancient and the modern Games.

The Olympic flame symbolises the light of spirit, knowledge and life. By passing the flame from a person to another in stages, the Torch Relay expresses the passing down of this symbolic fire from generation to generation.

Meanwhile, the Olympic symbol represents the Union of “The five continents “of the world as well as the meeting of athletes from across the world at The Olympic Games.

The Olympics are also a symbol of peace

Paris has hosted the Olympics twice before: in 1900 and 1924

The 1900 games marked the first time women were allowed to compete with Swiss-born New Yorker Hélène Pourtalès becoming the first female Olympic Champion in the sport sailing.

For the first time, doves were released during an Olympic Games opening ceremony at Antwerp 1920.

If there is something the modern Man is good at, it is to entertain wars, conflicts, social unrest, manufactured poverty, social classes, famine, discrimination of all sorts… this is the reason why, the image of a soldier for each country’s delegation releasing doves is a symbol of unity and peace the games always intended to convey the world as a whole.

Paris Olympic 2024 prognostics of countries who think they will win the most medals

With   just few days remaining, on June 25th 2024   according to Nielsen’s Gracenote Sports latest virtual Medal Table Forecast, for the 2024 Paris Olympics Games:

“The United States is projected to win 123 medals overall – 37 gold, 34 silver, and 52 bronze. China is forecast to win 87 overall- 36 gold, 29 silver, and 22 bronze”.

Gracenote’s VMT forecast projects the United States to win the most medals overall at Paris 2024 (123). If Team USA meets this expectation, it would mark the team’s 8th successive placement at the top of the final Summer Games medal table.

As a reminder, the forecast is done by supplying statistical analysis for sports leagues around the world.

That is a bit Eurocentric one may say! But even if it doesn’t make the media mainstream headlines, it would also be fair on a representation outlook to stress on the statistics   that most of America’s Olympic gold medals are won by black people as in statistically, 3 out of 5 American Olympic world medalists athletes are from Afro Caribbean descent even though they hold an American passport, after being naturalised as such.

This will thwart and put to a halt the ignorant and xenophobic outlook of the Olympics. Subsequently, block those who perceive world class events as shaped for purely the West.

    Dear ALL,

    Gracenote’s VMT forecast projects…

“The United States is projected to win 123 medals overall – 37 gold, 34 silver, and 52 bronze. China is forecast to win 87 overall- 36 gold, 29 silver, and 22 bronze”.

According to The Thesaurus online, Eurocentrism has been variously defined as an attitude, conceptual apparatus, or set of empirical beliefs that frame Europe or “ the West “as the primary engine and architect of world history, the bearer of universal values and reason, and the pinnacle and therefore model of progress and development.

Our intention is not to classify athletes by race but to stress why our editorial 🗞️🌏 intends to give a balance to the Status Quo established by the mainstream media.

    Dear ALL,

This season, The Bridge Magazine 🗞️🌏 resembles and is emblematic of the colours of the universality of The Olympic rings and spirit.

    Kind Regards,

    Dear ALL,

    Did you know?

🇲🇨 The Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene are both former Olympic athletes themselves.

The Principality of Monaco, 🇲🇨participation in the Paris Olympic games dated back 100 years ago. The principality, first time to welcome the flame was in 1968, during the Winter Olympic Games (OG) in Grenoble.

For the second time ever in history, the eternal Olympic flame has come to the Principality of Monaco 🇲as the torch makes its journey through the Riviera and on to Paris.

The Olympic Games and Monaco have a longstanding history.
